School Bus Accident in India, 11 dead

TEMPO.CO, New Delhi - At least 11 children have died after the school bus they were traveling collided with a truck in the northern state of Punjab.

The incident took place in the region Gahir accident, Jalandar district on Monday morning local time, March 4, 2013. Police said, "The school bus collided with a truck on the highway."

In addition to killing 11 school children, police said at least 10 children were admitted to hospital. Police said more than 110 thousand people have died every year due to traffic accidents in India.

"Seven high school students were killed on the spot, four died in hospital. Bus driver was also killed," local police official said, Rajinder Singh, told NDTV television channel.

March last year, at least 16 school children were killed and 18 others injured when their school bus plunged into a waterway in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
